Kakavaberd (Geghi Fortress)

Kakavaberd (Geghi Fortress)

Kakavaberd, also known as Geghi Fortress, is a medieval stronghold perched on a long, narrow rocky ridge deep within the Khosrov Forest Reserve. Its earliest fortifications date back over a thousand years, and it was strengthened by the Pahlavuni and later Proshyan princely families between the 9th and 13th centuries. Massive walls and round towers still guard the approachable side, while sheer cliffs protect the rest. Reaching it requires a demanding but rewarding hike through wild, scenic terrain. For those who make the trek, Kakavaberd offers superb ruins, total solitude and breathtaking panoramas over the surrounding gorges and mountains.
