The Kamakator Chapel is located in the high-altitude part of Vanadzor's Taron district, on the summit of the eponymous hill. In the State Register of Immovable Monuments of History and Culture it is located 300 metres south-east of the Vanadzor–Stepanavan road. According to inscriptions, the Kamakator Chapel was built in 1841.
The chapel's name is explained as 'one who fulfils wishes'.
On the wall of the chapel is depicted the mighty hand of God with a hammer. It is believed to be connected to the vision of Gregory the Illuminator, according to which God struck and levelled the Ejmiadzin, the place of Christ's descent.
The area around the Kamakator is also associated with the Battle of Karakilisa in 1918. The hill on which the sanctuary is located lies within the battleground of the Battle of Karakilisa.
Therefore, in the 1918–1920 period, this area was also used as a shelter and dwelling for Armenian refugees.
On 2 July 2017, the chapel was reconsecrated by Sepuh Archbishop Chuljyan, the Primate of the Diocese of Gougar.
