The Old Bridge of Ashtarak is an elegant three-arched stone bridge built in 1664 over the Kasagh River in the town of Ashtarak, in Armenia's Aragatsotn region.
It was paid for by a local merchant, Mahdesi Khoja Grigor. Its three arches have different spans, so they seem to step gracefully across the river gorge — and the bridge has stayed in good shape for more than 350 years.
Today the shaded riverbank under the bridge is a favourite picnic spot, cool and green even in summer. It sits in the old lower part of Ashtarak, close to the town's ancient churches such as Tsiranavor Church, with the countryside rising toward Mount Aragats beyond. It is a calm, pretty place to stop and enjoy the river.
