Mher Mkrtchyan House-Museum

Located in the historic heart of Gyumri, the Mher Mkrtchyan House-Museum is dedicated to the life and legacy of one of Armenia’s most iconic actors. Founded in 2004 and officially opened in 2006, the museum is housed in a striking 20th-century building of black tuff, a hallmark of the city’s architectural style.

The museum offers an intimate look into the personal and professional world of the man affectionately known as "Frunzik."

The exhibition is spread across two floors, capturing his journey from a local Gyumri youth to a legend of Soviet cinema and theater. Visitors can view his personal furniture, including his famous oversized bed, alongside everyday items that reflect his humble lifestyle.

The displays also feature a significant collection of career memorabilia, such as stage costumes and props from his most famous roles in films like The Tango of Our Childhood and Mimino.

A vast array of photographs, awards, and personal letters provides a deeper understanding of his complex character—a man who brought joy to millions while carrying a profound inner gravity.

Beyond its role as a gallery, the museum serves as a vital cultural center in Gyumri. It preserves the unique humor and spirit of the city that Mkrtchyan embodied so perfectly. Through guided tours and preserved archives, the museum ensures that his contributions to Armenian identity and the performing arts remain alive for new generations of fans and researchers alike.

"I want people to laugh, but not at me, but with me." — Mher Mkrtchyan
