Krya Wines is a small, artisanal family winery in Vernashen village, Vayots Dzor Province — the heart of Armenia's traditional winemaking country. It was founded by Tatevik Gabrielyan, a Vernashen native, and Jean-Paul Berger, who met while studying enology in Switzerland and later returned to restore vineyards over 70 years old that belonged to Tatevik's grandfather. "Krya" means "turtle" in Armenian, chosen as a symbol of patience and longevity, and the winery blends traditional Armenian clay karas vessels with French oak barrels, focusing on indigenous grape varieties such as Areni.
