The Church of Saint Hovhannes (Saint John) is the main church of Artashat, the capital of Armenia's Ararat region.
This is a fairly new church, but it was built to look like an old, traditional Armenian one. It is made from local stone and has a tall, round tower with a dome on top, matching a style that people in the area have used for hundreds of years. Inside, the church looks nice and feels very welcoming. It is surrounded by large, beautiful yards, and the local community comes here regularly for church services.
As the main place of worship in the provincial capital, it makes an easy and pleasant stop for travellers passing through Artashat — for example on the way to the famous Khor Virap monastery or the Khosrov Forest State Reserve.
